1/19/2024 0 Comments R killing floor 2Tl dr poor marketing/outreach to the general gaming community, as well as a repetitive (albeit extremely polished) gameplay loop, that can't keep the general gaming public coming back for more, besides during major gameplay content updates. For SWAT you should start with LLLLR to get the free armor and pistol. I hope if TW is doing, or at least planning a KF3 they find some way to shake up the formula in an interesting and natural way. I have no history with PD2, so I can't really give my thoughts on that. Left 4 Dead sort of has the same core gameplay problem, but this is masked by long-form linear story maps full of interesting set-pieces, while KF2 maps are mostly just static boxes with like only one good kiting route, or 1 good camp spot.ĭeep Rock Galactic does a good job with their variety by offering interesting variety through it's mission objectives, map types, and weapon customization. The base game is really just "shoot good in this big box map for 10 waves and kill a boss"ĭon't get me wrong, KF2 is an incredibly polished game, and it has to have something that has kept me playing for 2,000 hours, but there clearly isn't something that is keeping most people hooked onto the game. In my 9 years of playing both games, the most common thing I've heard from anybody while talking to about the game is "yeah, games cool, feels great and looks cool, but I got bored about 30 hours in" or "games fun, but I only really play during major updates" Most players will find the base game repetitive. These sorts of games are niche tend to get advertised by word of mouth or reputation. There introduction and revival of competing games on the market that do not suffer most of these issues. ![]() It's quite obvious that the game currently merely exists to be a cash cow maintained with the bare minimum of effort. Lazy or incompetent dev team approach to hot fixes and fixing design. There's no real thinking involved to be honest. KF2 early game is, in practice, going to the same hold spot and turning the handle of the meat grinder the same way you've done a dozen times over. L4D figuratively makes the players start from 0, and your early game is focused on exploring for consumables/upgrades and evading the disabling specials. Coop games that do figuratively force you to start from 0 each time usually have other elements to help make this phase interesting, such as exploration, preparation, evasion, or objectives, all of which this game severely lacks. Many other games give you the ability to, figuratively speaking, jump right to the exciting parts instead of spending a third of the match smacking ants with sticks. This is usually repeated again with prestige resets that often force you to go down a difficulty due to losing your skills and leveling bonuses. The survival game design creates repeated and significant periods of relative boredom with the early game where you primarily use weak weapons against weak enemies.Compared to the custom game modes I played in KF1 like the RE mansion maps, the gameplay variety is minimal. It's survival mode, survival mode against human players in a dead game mode, survival mode but you got to weld this door, survival mode but forever, and survival mode but the enemies act funny. ![]() This game has primarily been survival and variations of survival for too long. If you get tired of the shooting aspect, the game rapidly grows stale without interesting objectives and with only 1-2 real game modes, with the other game modes being only minor variations thereof. ![]()
